In a joint initiative announced by the National Domestic Violence Hotline and Liz Claiborne Inc., a nationwide 24-hour web-based and telephone helpline has been established for teenagers experiencing dating abuse. Operated by the Texas Council on Family Violence from their call centre in Austin, Texas, loveisrespect.org and The National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline are intended to provide teens in abuse relationships with a safe, confidential environment to talk with trained counselors about dealing with abuse. Loveisrespect.org also provides resources for teen, friends, and family members to receive help and information in the community in which they live. Live chat with trained professionals and young adults is also available online as well as resources to prevent computer monitoring.
Resources for parents include warning signs designed to alert them to behavioural and psychological changes in their children resulting from dating abuse. Suggestions are provided to improve communication and seek help for their child.
